Alfonso
was from Bolivia or rather from the elite atmosphere. He came
to Cambridge University at England to study planning or more
precisely State planning. He was residing at Cambridge with
his wife and child. He was interested in human knowledge.
In particular Eastern knowledge. And I was studying Chinese
language at Cambridge at the Oriental institute.
Cambridge University is a beautiful university with beautiful
scenery. And I was supposed to study history, economics and
politics as sociology and all walks of civilization all men
in China. From the looks of it, it seemed to be difficult
but I was ready for the challenge.
One
day I was at the buttery having my afternoon tea after my
class. Without invitation a student came and sat on the same
table in front of me. He was black he said he is from Bolivia
and he said his name is Alfonso Ugrate, that he has come to
Cambridge university to continue his studies concerned State
Planning.
My
eyes shun and I asked him have you read the newspaper yesterday
about Bolivia. He said no. And asked what's happening. I said
the Local newspaper mentioned about coup d'etat in Bolivia.
He smiled. He rebuked by saying that everybody makes a coup
d'etat in Bolivia. It is a national treasure. Even the layman
makes a good coup d'etat. He asked have you been to China?
I've heard you've been to China? I told him in the posit and
he said China is very revolutionary country how did you go
there. I said I went on a scholarship. He said so the state
put you in prison. I said how did they put me in prison they
have sent me there and I was there to study Chinese language
only? He said you must come from a working class or better
yet from a revolutionary class? I told him we have no peasants
in Kuwait only normal citizens. And I come form a well to
do family. But he insisted by saying that Kuwait is a futurist
place. The only thing you have is oil and by oil the country
thinks can buy everybody. Then he asked his ultimate question,
did the state buy you? I told him education is free in Kuwait
everybody has a right to be educated; our leaders have made
sure that we become educated. And the state above all takes
care of all its citizen when they pass away they bury him
in a grave and he is free. His eyes glittered he said this
is a boring way of living .It is even here to die in a peaceful
way and everybody knows that you are gonna die anyway? And
then he continued by saying have you heard about Cheguvera?
He
continued by saying he was defending all his life the plight
of the masses. Our relations continued on familiar basis for
over a year until I decided to go Oxford University. I didn't
look back to Bolivia to continue whatever he said. He stopped
by and I finished from Oxford University and came back to
Kuwait. After years while I was in Kuwait I received a letter
from Cynthia. I was very surprised she said she stopped over
in Kuwait in her way to India. And she looked at the phoned
number in Argentina 3 years later I went to U.S.A and from
one end I gave Cynthia a call in Argentina. And when she went
to India she said he has sent to be a Guru? And then he stole
my time and to come to India to be a Guru also? Now I am staying
in Argentina all alone.
