It
has often been the debate within philosopher's circles, that
the habitat of a human being will have a profound and direct
effect on the development and growth of a human being. To
test the theoretical argument that Human nature is seen to
evolve from nature itself, either silently or through expressive
means, one must establish whether or not the habitat, one
is a part of, reflects one's outlook for the future. It should
be noted that this outlook has to contain a futuristic aspect,
as hope is often the key to a person's happiness.
San Francisco is a City, within the United States of America,
which is both affluent and beautiful. Lying to the north of
the State of California, the city attracts visitors from the
United Sates as well as visitors from all around the world.
But what is it about San Francisco that draws people from
around the globe to visit and, more often than not, results
in these people vowing to return for another visit?
Is it perhaps the wonderful climate, with its warm and relaxing
summer days and its crisp winter night? Is it perhaps the
structure of the city with its unique transportation system
of trams and its steep hills? Maybe is the prospect of seeing
one of man's greatest engineering creations, which is now
seen one of America's prime landmarks, that is the Golden
Gate Bridge? Or perhaps it is the welcoming reception one
receives from the liberal local inhabitants who are always
enthusiastic in learning from new minds and cultures?
It is interesting to see that the city is home to the famous
California's University of Berkeley, which has a remarkable
effect on the human mind. Many Nobel Prize winners have been
students at Berkeley and many 20th Century philosophers have
been a part of this reputable institution. At the same time,
the city is home to the infamous Prison of Alcatraz, a prison
on an island off the city, famous for the fact that it is
impossible to escape from.
But the question is, is there indeed a link between living
in a city as San Francisco and developing a fine tuned philosophy
of thought? The freedom a local San Franciscan feels and the
every day pleasures he will experience walking through his
city appear to be sufficient enough evidence that his mind
will be relaxed, and one knows that a relaxed mind provides
the antidote of success. Perhaps it is because a local San
Franciscan can see the prison of Alcatraz in the distance.
This reminds him of how freedom can be lost and most likely,
in a sub conscious way, allows him to appreciate his freedom
and use it in a positive manner.
To conclude, the link between such fine scientific and philosophical
minds and this fine city in which they inhabit, is evidence
that there is indeed a link between the development and success
of a human being and the surroundings in which they inhabit.
